Population: 742,737 and happens to be the 165th nation of the world in terms of population.

 

No official data on the status of demography in Bhutan.

 

Ngalops and Sharchopsconstitue main population called the Western and Eastern Bhutanese. The Lhotshampa, meaning “Southern Bhutanese’ happen to be a heterogeneous group comprising of mostly Nepali origin people. It was claimed they constituted 45% of the population in 1988 censusand included even the migrant Nepalis to the region. There is also an unofficial data that puts the muslim population in the country to about 5% but official it is said to be less than 1%.

 

Main religions: Buddhism (state religion), Hinduism

 

Main minority groups: Nepali-speakers (35%), indigenous and others (15%)
