In fresh controversy keeping up to a majoritarian mindset, BJP legislator K Laxman from Telangana opposing Sania Mirza’s selection as the brand ambassador of the state called her an ‘outsider’ on grounds that ‘she was a daughter- in- law of Pakistan’. Sania 27, is married to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik and continues to play for India. She is presently ranked doubles world number 5 by the WTA.
Adding fuel to Sania’s “Being Indian” controversy Sudhanshu Trivedi another prominent TV face of the BJP peddled another robust majoritarian common sense in a TV debate on the issue. Trivedi asked amusingly “what would happen to Sania’s loyalties if India and Pakistan went to war”.
Fodder for thought for all respectable nationalists!
What role should Sania ‘the daughter’, play during times of Indo Pak war?
Did we also think which side will Shoaib Malik be during war? Or is it just for daughters and daughter in laws to prove loyalties.
