India Characterizes a democratic set up that is home to more ethnic and religious groups than many democratic countries of the world.The much noted 2000-odd castes with breakups,eight major religions,22 scheduled languages spoken in various dialects in 29 states and 7 union territories with a substantial number of tribes and sects,make the country a unique model for secularism,democracy and social inclusiveness for 1.25 billion people of the world.

 

But ethnic and religious conflicts have also marked history and influenced the present culture society and governance in the country.This page will bring forth stories of ethnic,social and religious conflicts that pose a continuous threat to the largest democracy of the world’.
